illustration - gerard way & akasha

current listen - gerard way | hesitant alien (2014)

It’s a twofer today! Just a couple of illustrations to prove that I’m a certified emo freak (laudatory).

First is Gerard Way from his Hesitant Alien era:

While I’ve never been a huge fan of the album itself (not much of a britpop person, though it has its moods!), I’ve loved the bright imagery of the marketing shoots done for this album. I’m a sucker for primary colors. I’ve wanted to try a rendition of this photo for ages, and decided to finally study it to focus on my rendering and color use.

Next up is a rendition of Akasha from Queen of the Damned (2002), everyone’s favorite movie with incredible style and terrible substance. And, of course, Aaliyah.

Again, wanted to focus less on design and more on rendering and color. This was referenced from a still from the film itself.
