character design - sonatine addendum

… and after sleeping on Sonatine’s silly little court jester outfit, I’ve decided it’s too ridiculous. Any time I tried to picture her sneaking around or trying to talk her way out of situations, I would want to tell her to go home and change.

So I took two hours to draft this up:

I wanted to keep a little bit of the baroque influence - it’s kind of there in the shape of the vest - but I also went back and refreshed my memory on some traditional Romanian garb. Overall, this is an outfit that I can picture her actually doing stuff in without people going “hey who let the goth elf clown in here”.

Plus I wanted to draw out her cute little haute couture cloak.

I did debate whether to put her in a skirt over breeches, but a core part of her character is being resigned to a traditionally female role so I felt a skirt was more appropriate. Plus who doesn’t love the potential for a little flash of the knee.
